Poll: Only 27% say America is heading in the right direction

written by Frank Williams

American_Flag_2According to a poll published yesterday by Rasmussen Reports, only 27% of likely voters say the United States is heading in the right direction, while 67% say the country is headed in the wrong direction.  Rasmussen’s polls have shown that a consistently low percentage of voters feel the country is headed in the right direction — the figure was below 20% prior to President Obama’s inauguration.

The poll also reveals an ongoing disconnect between what Rasmussen calls the “political class” and the rest of us:  65% of the political class say the country is heading in the right direction, while 82% of mainstream voters say it’s going in the wrong direction.

Independence Day

written by Frank Williams

patriot_with_flagThis weekend, we once again celebrate the birth of the greatest free society this world has ever known:  the United States of America.  Every day, we in America enjoy a level of freedom that is unprecedented in human history.

We call July 4 our “Independence Day.”  With that in mind, we should consider what exactly our forefathers fought and died to gain independence from.

I believe the Declaration of Independence provides clear insight into the reasons our forefathers were willing to risk their lives and all of their earthly possessions to fight for independence from Great Britain.  I have inserted the entire text of the Declaration below.  Please take time to read it and reflect on it as you enjoy this holiday weekend.

Memorial Day

written by Frank Williams

anim_flag_USAThis weekend we celebrate Memorial Day. Memorial Day is a time set aside to remember the men and women who lost their lives serving in our nation’s Armed Forces.

As the author of USMemorialDay.org states, “Traditional observance of Memorial Day has diminished over the years. Many Americans nowadays have forgotten the meaning and traditions of Memorial Day. At many cemeteries, the graves of the fallen are increasingly ignored, neglected. Most people no longer remember the proper flag etiquette for the day. While there are towns and cities that still hold Memorial Day parades, many have not held a parade in decades.”
