Conservative Energy on the Ground in Southeastern North Carolina

written by Frank Williams

During the month of March I attended county GOP conventions in nine southeastern North Carolina counties.  Everywhere I went, there were big crowds of enthusiastic conservatives ready to roll up their sleeves and work to take back our state and nation.  This was true even in rural counties long dominated by Democrats.

In addition to attending nine county conventions, the 7th District Republican Party has held three debates among the Republican candidates for Congress.  The first debate, held in Brunswick County, attracted over 200 people.  The second and third debates, which were both held in rural, Democrat-dominated counties (Duplin and Columbus), each attracted around 50 people — a far cry from the phone booths in which many local Republican organizations were once able to meet.

The 2010 Primaries: Your Chance to Help Determine What the GOP Stands For

written by Frank Williams

by Frank Williams

All too often, I hear from conservatives who are frustrated by the voting records of Republican officeholders.  They often make statements like “the Republican Party doesn’t stand for anything.”  Unfortunately, far too few of those conservatives vote in the Republican primaries that determine which candidates carry our party’s banner in the general election.

On May 4, conservatives have an opportunity to help determine what the Republican Party stands for by voting in our primary election.  Primaries are an opportunity for Republicans to get to know the candidates who wish to carry the Republican banner in November, find out who they are and what they believe, and discern which of them will be the best general election candidates and ultimately the best officeholders.

Today’s 7th District GOP Meeting: Another Packed House

written by Frank Williams

gadsdenflagThe N.C. 7th Congressional District Republican Party held its quarterly executive committee meeting today at Dale’s Seafood in Whiteville.  We had yet another great turnout — the room was packed. In addition to those who attended today’s meeting, a number of 7th District Republicans carried the conservative banner at the Taxpayers’ March on Raleigh today.

As I have attended events throughout the district since being elected district chairman, I have been encouraged by the attendance and enthusiasm I have seem.  The bottom line is that conservatives are fired up and ready to fight to preserve the freedom we cherish and enjoy as Americans — and we need all hands on deck for the critical 2010 elections.

Wrap-up of today’s 7th District grassroots training in Fayetteville

written by Frank Williams

Today’s 7th District GOP grassroots training in Fayetteville was quite successful.  We had 18 attendees from five different counties (not including the trainers).  I was particularly pleased with the number of Young Republicans in attendance.

As I have visited counties throughout the 7th District I have been encouraged by the energy level among conservative activists.  The level of energy and interest among those who attended today’s training was no different.  Photos from today’s training can be viewed here.

Our next training session is set for Saturday, Oct. 24 in Wilmington.  Click here to download a .PDF registration form.

Powerful Examples of Grassroots Dedication and Leadership

written by Frank Williams

ncgoponegoallogoA few minutes ago, I sent the NCGOP 7th District’s nominations for the 2009 NCGOP Hall of Fame to the state headquarters.  As I compiled the nomination forms, I was struck by the level of dedication and sacrifice demonstrated by each of our nominees.

One nominee basically founded the Republican Party in his county, chaired it for approximately fifteen years, and was willing to stand up to the Democrat machine in a hostile environment when others chose to run and hide.  Another nominee managed the campaign of her county’s first Republican commissioner, then managed the campaigns which led to her county’s first Republican majority on the board of commissioners.  Another has served as treasurer, secretary, vice chairman and chairman of his county party.   Yet another led his county to a clean sweep of local races in 2008 — not a friendly year for Republicans.  I could go on and on.

NC Coastal Conservative Conference – First Day Wrap-Up

written by Frank Williams

Overall, this was a great first day for this conference.  I was very pleased to see the number of people in attendance.

The general message of day one was clear:

  • We have big challenges ahead of us, both in terms of immediate and pressing public policy issues and in terms of upcoming elections;
  • We have a lot of work to do in terms of building organizations and recruiting candidates;
  • The Republican Party must reclaim its brand identity as the party of economic freedom, limited government, free markets and common-sense fiscal policy.  We cannot do this by merely talking about these issues; we must propose and then deliver policies which put our ideas into action.
