Looks like we struck a nerve…
I was rather surprised to find this letter to the editor in this week’s Brunswick Beacon.
The letter begins as follows: “It has already started. The ink was hardly dry on David Redwine’s filing papers before he was attacked by Frank Williams, chairman of the 7th Congressional District Republican Party. Most people I know are tired of the ‘gotcha’ politics of chairman Williams.”
Looks like we struck a nerve.
The letter was written in response to an article in which this press release was quoted. It is my understanding that the author of the letter is a “big-time Democrat” activist (the words in quotes are repeated verbatim from someone who knows the author of the letter).

State Senator R.C. Soles: Another Day, Another Scandal…
TABOR CITY, N.C. – Frank Williams, Chairman of the N.C. Republican Party’s 7th Congressional District, today called on State Senator R.C. Soles to come clean about his latest scandal. The three counties in Soles’ Senate district all fall within the 7th Congressional District.
“During his nearly four decades in the North Carolina Senate, R.C. Soles has been embroiled in scandal after scandal,” says Williams. “Now, he is refusing to answer a reporter’s questions about his most recent incident. Rather than answer the reporter’s questions, he pretended that he couldn’t hear the questions – after nine minutes on the same phone call during which he had no problems hearing. This is unacceptable. The people of Columbus, Brunswick and Pender counties deserve honest, open representation in Raleigh. Senator Soles should either come clean about his latest scandal, or he should resign his seat.”

Star News: Redistricting of New Hanover, Pender House districts completed
The Wilmington Star-News is reporting that a bill to redraw the State House districts in New Hanover and Pender Counties has passed the N.C. Senate and will likely be signed into law. This action was required as a result of a lawsuit which successfully challenged the constitutionality of the existing districts.
As a side note, all 120 State House Districts and all 50 State Senate districts will be redrawn in 2011, after the next census is completed. This means that the legislators elected in 2010 will draw the districts, which will be in effect for 10 years unless they are deemed unconstitutional (which has happened quite frequently in recent years).
