A Pre-Primary Note to Our Republican Candidates
Earlier today I sent the following note to the three Republican Congressional candidates in the 7th District, and to legislative candidates in contested primaries whose districts overlap with the 7th District.

Dear Candidate,
The primary election is upon us. The final votes will be cast tomorrow, and by Wednesday we will know which of you will carry the Republican Party’s banner this November (except in the case of any races that require runoffs).

Wrap-Up of Today’s 7th District Meeting
I just got in from today’s 7th District GOP Executive Committee meeting in Lumberton. We had a very productive meeting with enthusiastic attendees from counties throughout the district.
A number of candidates were in attendance today, including some who are running in Democrat-leaning districts that have often gone unchallenged. These candidates are sticking their necks out to ensure that the Democrats have to defend every seat they hold, and we should do all in our power to help them succeed.
In some cases, I hear people say things like “that seat isn’t winnable.” In many cases, the numbers appear to support that argument — but in 1994 we won many seats that no one deemed winnable.
Rasmussen Poll: Burr Takes Bigger Lead
According to a poll released today by Rasmussen Reports, incumbent U.S. Senator Richard Burr (R-NC) has expanded his lead over two of his potential Democrat opponents. According to the poll:
- Burr leads Secretary of State Elaine Marshall 50% to 34%, with 12% undecided and 4% preferring some other candidate. Last month, Burr led Marshall 47%-37%.
- Burr leads former state Senator Cal Cunningham 51% to 29%, with 14% undecided and 6% preferring another candidate. Last month he led Cunningham 50% to 34%.
- Against both Democrats, Burr leads among voters not affiliated with either major party by 20 or more points.
NCGOP Chairman Tom Fetzer addresses Pender County GOP Presidents’ Day Dinner
Last night I attended the Pender County Republican Party President’s Day Dinner in Hampstead. The event attracted a strong crowd of enthusiastic conservatives who are committed to electing candidates who will restore common sense to our government.
NCGOP State Chairman Tom Fetzer was the keynote speaker. Chairman Fetzer underscored many of the problems our state and nation have seen under the Obama and Perdue administrations.
